Students from 4A attended a rehearsal of “Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert” with the
Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra on 3 July, 2019. They experienced the classic film
as a live symphonic concert ahead of regular audience members on 4 and 5 July.
The rehearsal was a great chance to see professional musicians at work. Students
had a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how an orchestra prepares for a performance,
including the orchestra musicians, conductors and technical crew. The four basic
instrument families – brass, woodwinds, percussion and strings – visibly came alive for
attendees in the 90-minute rehearsal. For most 4A students, attending the rehearsal at
the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, not to mention experiencing the unfamiliar format of a
film screening with live orchestra performance, was a first.
We hope this cultural and musical experience will inspire our students to try new things
and strive for excellence in the various aspects of their lives. Many thanks go to Ms.
Millie Chan for helping to make arrangements for this memorable outing.
