Queen’s College Old Boys’ Association Secondary School

The Thirty-fourth Annual Speech Day

9 July 2022, 3:00 p.m., School Hall

Queen’s College Old Boys’ Association Secondary School celebrated its 34th Speech Day on 9 July 2022. We were honored to have our former teacher, Dr. Ho Koon Wan, who is now the Visiting Professor from Department of History at The Hong Kong Shue Yan University, to be our Guest of Honour.

Mr. Michael Chan, School Supervisor, opened the ceremony with warm welcoming remarks. Following this, Mr. Ronald Hui, our School Principal, welcomed guests, parents and congratulated all graduates on their successful completion of their secondary school education amid all the uncertainties brought by the pandemic. On behalf of our school, Mr. Hui thanked Dr. Ho for officiating the speech day and all his contribution made in the founding of the school. Then Mr. Hui reported the school development and the achievements of students with relevance to the three major concerns. Despite the challenges in this academic year, the school still managed to organize ample learning activities to foster the growth of our students. This year the school is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a splendid array of activities. Mr. Hui then invited everyone to take part in them to share the joy. Mr. Hui closed his speech by a round of applause to express our gratitude to the parents and teaching staff.

The Speech Day then moved on to the presentation of prizes and certificates to many deserving recipients. This was a happy confirmation of the efforts made and success attained by the many hard-working graduates.

Another highlight of the day is the speech by The Guest of Honour, Dr. Ho Koon Wan. In his address, Dr. Ho shared his story to realize his dream as a historian. As one of the teachers who taught in our school in the early years of our founding, Dr. Ho recounted the memories teaching in our school, which are full of challenges and sweetness. He also thanked everyone who have made contributions to make our school a place to nurture many outstanding graduates. The path to success is never easy. Dr. Ho wished graduates could contribute to the school in the coming future. He ended his sharing by blessing everyone a bright future and good health.

After Dr. Ho’s speech, Mr. Peter Mok, Chairman of the Board of Directors, presented souvenirs to our honorable guest, Dr. Ho Koon Wan. As a token of appreciation to the staff members who have served our school for over fifteen years, Dr. Ho Koon Wan presented Service Awards to the awardees. Four teaching staff members are going to retire this summer. We wish them the best of health, happiness and success on their new page of life.

Following this, S.6 graduate, Yiu Wai Yee, delivered a valedictorian speech with a vote of thanks on behalf of the graduated classes to the Guest of Honour, our school Principal and teachers.

To round off the successful prize-giving ceremony, our talented S.6 graduates Fan Lok Yee and Wong King Yi dedicated a song to teachers and schoolmates at QCOBASS, to commemorate the school years and to express the heartfelt gratitude to teachers. In closing, members from the School Choir led the school in singing a heartfelt rendition of the school song. The ceremony ended with photo-taking and refreshments.
